Encyclopedia of Haitian Studies is a free-to-read reference work published by the Haitian Center for Research in Social Sciences (CHARESSO).

Rights regime

All rights reserved. Each author grants the publisher, by signed contract, a licence to exploit their contribution — following the model of scholarly journals. Signature of that instrument is a precondition of publication.

Access

Reading the encyclopedia is free and requires no account. PDF download, certain services, and printed collections may be reserved for members or offered against payment. These revenues fund the editorial operation.

A note on wording — the Encyclopedia is “free to read”, not “open access”. The latter term, in the sense of the Budapest declaration, additionally implies reuse rights that this regime does not grant. We prefer to name things precisely.

Citation and identifiers

Every published contribution receives a permanent DOI, shared across its language versions. A translation published as an autonomous work receives its own DOI, linked to the first.

Corrections, versions, and withdrawal

Minor corrections — typos, links, reference normalisation — keep the DOI; the revision date is updated. A substantial rewrite receives a new DOI and a version relation: the earlier version remains accessible.

An erratum, expression of concern, withdrawal, or retraction is issued as a separate public notice, itself identified and linked to the contribution. A withdrawn contribution is never deleted: its DOI keeps resolving and the page carries the notice. This is the condition of a reliable scholarly record.

Reuse

Any reproduction, translation, or distribution beyond short quotation requires written permission. Requests should be addressed to the editorial office.
